Favorite Song?
What is your favorite song? Has it been your favorite song for a long time or does your favorite song change through time? Music therapists have written about songs from their client/patients' perspective and many have eloquently described how their use of a patient's favorite song has enhanced their ability to address significant moments or personal themes, thus enhancing the therapeutic relationship. Let's think about songs we use for ourselves for a moment. Indeed, songs can capture the essence of a moment or the flavor of an experience. Songs in some ways represent a piece of our culture and may directly or indirectly reflect issues or themes of relevance to our society. There are many musical and lyrical components to consider when thinking about a favorite song from a purely artistic/aesthetic perspective. Let's delve into the past or perhaps consider the present moment for a minute. Tell me: What is your favorite song and what image or snapshot in time do you tie to this song?

Day by day, and with each passing moment,
Strength I find, to meet my trials here;
Trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment,
I’ve no cause for worry or for fear.
He Whose heart is kind beyond all measure
Gives unto each day what He deems best—
Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure,
Mingling toil with peace and rest.

My favorite song presently is "Touched By The Sun" as written and sung by Carly Simon. It's track 18? on the Reflections/Greatest Hits album. The first time I heard it I was floored and it calls to me like no other right now. It motivates, inspires and puts me in a great mood after I've listened to it a couple of times.
Just looked up the song and found that Carly wrote, "Like A River" for her mother and "Touched By The Sun" for Jackie Kennedy Onassis, who were close friends that died within 4 months of each other during the writing of the album.

"I'll never fall in love again" is one of the first songs that I tried to memorize.
Imagination is one that comes to mind right now
However, at the same time, I have many "favourite" songs which come to my life according to the moments the songs touch me. These songs remind me some memories, helping me to express some feelings or thoughts without words, but with music/lyrics.
Overall, favourite songs to me are not just with good musical arrangement, but also with good lyrics.
That is the beauty of song.......
I love artists that I was introduced to in college (Tori Amos, "Sleeps with Butterflies" is a new fav). And now, some favorite songs I have are those I now sing for my 2 year-old daughter. A favorite song that I sing to her, "What a Wonderful World", is a favorite because of the beautiful melody, lyrics, but even more so because she sings it with me. When I am much older, I know that I'll think back to this time and the beauty of hearing her little voice singing out into the darkness just before we say goodnight.
Paul who? Paul Brady is one of the most under-rated artists of our time. Bob Dylan named his as one of his favorite songwriters.
Just search on Google and you will find The Island and much more including video clips on You Tube.

At the moment my favorite song is "If You Want to Sing Out - by the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens.
